Easy Day Trips from Victoria for Spring Exploring | DFH Real Estate

If you've been aching for a vacation but just can't find the time, you're not alone. Our real estate agents also have trouble stepping away from their work—especially during the busy spring season. That's why they swear by taking the occasional day trip.

There are countless interesting places to visit around Southern Vancouver Island. Many of them are less than an hour's drive from our Victoria homes for sale. Check out these fun, low-stakes Victoria day-trip ideas handpicked by our team.

Southern Vancouver Island Day Trip Destinations to Help You Unwind This Spring

Sip Craft Cocktails and Cider at Merridale Cidery & Distillery

Address: 1230 Merridale Road, Cobble Hill, BC V8H 1A1

Love a cold drink on a warm spring day? You're in luck. Merridale Cidery & Distillery produces all the cider they sell and the spirits used in their signature cocktails. They offer a rotating selection of around half a dozen of each, served chilled at their orchard and brewhouse. Take a trip to this pastoral paradise just north of our Mill Bay homes for sale to:

  • Sample the latest mixed drinks and ciders
  • Sign up for a guided tasting to better appreciate each selection's complex flavours
  • Enjoy a meal at the Farmhouse Eatery
  • Shop for drinks to take home with you at the Farm Store
  • Use the Mystical Faerie Map to search for otherworldly creatures
  • Walk around the orchard
  • Play lawn games and soak up the sun in their secluded garden courtyard

The farm is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Admission is free, but you'll want to budget a little money for drinks and activities.

Get in Touch with Nature at Goldstream Park

Address: Finlayson Arm Road, Langford, BC V9B 6H7

Goldstream Park is a natural hideaway teeming with life at the southern end of the Finlayson Arm. Even though it's just a few minutes' drive away from our Langford homes for sale, you'll feel like you've stepped into the deepest depths of BC's temperate rainforest. Visit this spot to spend your day enjoying:

  • A mixture of straightforward and challenging trails, including some that take hikers up some of the cliffs of Mt. Finlayson
  • Many scenic foot bridges, waterfalls, and streams, where you can snap a few shots
  • Fishing opportunities in the stream and fjord
  • Picnic spots hidden away in the trees
  • A playground with large slides and a jungle gym

The park is open from sun-up to sundown and is free for day use. Avoid venturing too far into the woods when you don't have much daylight left. The forest is quite thick in places, making it easy to get lost in the dark.

Stroll Through Spring Blooms at Butchart Gardens

Address: 800 Benvenuto Avenue, Brentwood Bay, BC V8M 1J8

Butchart Gardens is an extremely popular tourist destination near our Central Saanich homes for sale, but don't let that fool you: This place definitely lives up to the hype. You'll want to spend hours exploring this wonderland of gorgeous landscapes. Some highlights include:

  • The Italian Garden, a stately stone courtyard surrounded by manicured flowerbeds and crowned with an ornamental fountain, a pond, and dramatic bronze statues
  • The Japanese Garden, a peaceful one-acre space crisscrossed by streams, stone pathways, and raised wooden walkways, and surrounded by spring blooms
  • The Sunken Garden, an enchanting field of blooms clustered around a tall limestone ridge that has been fashioned into stone steps

You can visit the gardens every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until May 27th and from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. from the 28th to the 31st. Tickets are $41 for adults, $20.50 for teens aged 13 to 17, and $3 for kids aged 3 to 12 until June 1st.

Kick Back by the Coast at French Beach Park

Address: Juan De Fuca Highway, Sooke, BC V9Z 1G8

While it's probably too cold for most folks to go swimming right now, you can still enjoy the serene atmosphere of French Beach Park. This quiet seaside refuge near our Sooke homes for sale sits directly on the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, offering:

  • Hiking trails that travel near the water and through some of the densely forested parts of the park
  • Picnic tables where you can eat while enjoying the fresh sea air
  • Many opportunities to spot wildlife like seals, otters, ospreys, and even migrating grey whales on their spring voyage up north

The park is free for day use and is less busy before the summer heatwaves hit.
